BANGALORE, April 23, 2009: Seventeen of the 28 constituencies in Karnataka are going polling on Thursday amidst tight security.
Constituencies going to polls are Chikkodi, Belgaum, Bangalore rural, Bangalore central, Bangalore South, Bangalore North, Bijapur, Bidar, Gulbarga, Chikballapur, Koppal, Raichur, Tumkur, Bellary, Uttara Kannada, Chitradurga and Kolar.
Polling will be held between 7 am and 5 pm. As many as 2.6 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. There are 271 candidates in the fray. A total of 16,000 Special Armed Forces and Central Para Military Forces will be deployed here to ensure smooth conduct of Lok Sabha polls.
As many as 1.49 lakh officials have been roped in to conduct polling in 29,000 polling booths. About 7100 micro observers will monitor elections. 5,800 video and digital cameras have been installed in sensitive polling booths.
Each assembly constituency will be provided with one KSRP platoon to deal with any untoward situation. There are in all, 5905 polling booths in Bangalore city.
