Lamka, Dec 27: The Manipur Hill Journalists Union has condemned what it termed an “insult” to the press by IPR Minister Mr TN Haokip. 

The MHJU has asked the minister to tender an apology within two days failing which it threatened to boycott the him.

It may be mentioned that the MHJU team under its president Mr Thangzalian had tried to meet Mr Haokip over the issue of MHJU members proposed Internal Tour-cum-Refresher Course to Moreh. However, the minister “abruptly and disdainfully” refused to entertain the journalists, a press statement issued by the union said.

The MHJU accused the minister of using “abusive language” besides allegedly stating that “the Union should not approach and talk to him in regards to any MHJU matters.”

“The MHJU wonders why Shri TN Haokip, being a representative of the people and a minister of Information and Publicity, should  conduct himself towards a press institution in such a brusque manner,” the MHJU said, adding, Mr Haokip’s “immediate apology” was a must to avoid further action.

The most popular Hmar dance, Fahrel Tawk Lam was performed by the Hmar Cultural Troupe from NC Hills, Assam, during the Mysore Dasara Festival 2011, in Karnataka. (Video Given Below)

The Fahrel Tawk Lam (Pestel Dance) is often referred to as the ‘Bamboo Dance’ due to the common use of bamboo shaft during performances by dancers in towns and cities.

Several attempts have been made to bring uniformity in the dance form by the Hmar community leaders, but the ‘wooden pestel’ is aslo gradually replaced by bamboo even in village events.

 

Haire Hai 4 is almost ready for the public and the expectations are even "higher", according to Lalsanglien Zote, the man behind the popular titled ‘Haire Hai’ series of music albums. Wise men and the starBy Prof Lal Dena, Inpui.com Patron and History professor at the Manipur University.

The Gospel according to Mathew writes: “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, ‘where is he that is born King of the Jews for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him” (Mathew 2:1-2)

Most spectacular and extraordinary astronomical phenomenon did occur on the night when Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, was born at Bethlehem. This was the appearance of what is popularly known as the Star of Bethlehem which guided the wise men from the East to the small town of Bethlehem in Palestine. What was this star? Or was it a comet? Was it a supernova? Was it completely a new star? Opinions of the astrologers are sharply divided on the nature of the star.
First, some scientists are of the view that the star could perhaps be a certain kind of a comet. It is popularly believed that the sight of such comet was a bad omen foretelling an impending famine or disaster. Could the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, be regarded as a bad omen? At the same time, we cannot ignore what had happened soon after the birth of Jesus. Herod ordered to kill all the boys below two years old in Bethlehem and its vicinity with a sole motive of killing the babe Jesus whom he considered to be a potential danger to his position.

Secondly, Johannes Kepler contends that the Star of Bethlehem must have been a supernova that appeared as a result of the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in the year 7 B.C. The conjunction that Kepler thought was the cause of the generation of the nova, has itself come to be regarded by many as the Star of Bethlehem. As a matter of fact, in the course of the year 7 B.C., a conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter in the constellation of Pisces occurred three times. Again this incident took place on 19 May, 7 B.C.

Thirdly, God is the creator of the world. Through him all things were made, without him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:3). So most popular view among the Christians is that God had specially created the star to reveal to the world that Jesus Christ was born at Bethlehem to save mankind. The star guided the wise men to Bethlehem and maybe, after it had done the work, disappeared again.

Now let us try to identify the wise men. Who were the three wise men? In the original Greek text, the wise men are called Magi. The Magi of the Bible story were first elevated to kingship in the sixth century by Caesarius of Arles. As per the Jewish historical documents, the wise men were Melchior, Casper and Balthasar who were of course well-versed in “magical” practices, being experts in the methods of astrology. They were highly learned men and perhaps belonged to a royal class and this fact is testified by their kingly dress and precious gifts to the babe Jesus.

Melchior was a Greek by nationality. He looked elderly with a grey hair and long beard. Caspar was believed to have come from India. He still looked young without beard with a little bit of red face. Balthasar looked pale with a short beard and was believed to have come from Egypt. It is thus an established fact that the three wise men belonged to different nationalities coming from different countries. The question here is: where did they meet? From which country did they start their pilgrimage to Bethlehem? There is no consensus opinion on this. Persia, (Iran) once a powerful empire in the Old Testament times, could be the place where the wise men met and studied together here. In English Bible, the wise men are called Magi. The Greek term Magi means to Magus which refers to a Zoroastrian priest of Persia. Maybe from Persia, the three wise men started their journey to Jerusalem in search of the newly born babe Jesus. Other scholars have suggested that Arabia (Saudi Arabia) or Babulon (Iraq) could perhaps the place from the wise men first sighted the star and then proceeded to Jerusalem.

Let us now see the impact of the Star of Bethlehem on mankind. The Star had both positive and negative impacts on mankind. First, it appears that the wise men were deeply devoted religious people, well-versed in Old Testament scriptures which foretold the birth of Jesus Christ. As soon as they sighted the star, they realized that it was the star of God, for they said, “We have seen his star in the east.” Faithfully did they follow it perhaps riding on their camel which was the common means of long journey at that time and had come to Jerusalem. Perplexed at the loss of the star in Jerusalem, they came to Herod and asked: “Where is he that is born of the king of the Jews?” But they did not give it up. They persistently kept on moving and Mathew records, “After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him.”(Mat.2:9-10). Meichior offered a gift of gold, Casper frankincense, and Balthasar myrrh to babe Jesus. Thus to those who believed, the Star of Bethlehem gave an exceeding joy, an eternal joy.

There are other groups of people who were impacted by the star negatively. Herod, the priests and the scholars of law were confused and perplexed. They had soon frantically conducted their high level research by consulting old documents and had come across what Micah, a prophet, had prophesied: “But, Bethlehem, Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel.” (Micah,5:2). For majority of mankind, seeing is not belief. They go on with their own wisdom but being blinded their own understanding. What happened to Herod? Power-hungry and blood thirsty Herod indulged not only in mass infanticide but also butchered his own family members - his wife Mariamme, mother-in-law Alexandra, his three sons – Antipater, Alexander, Aristobulus, his brother-in-law, his uncle and other close relatives who were likely to claim the kingship. Look at our society today. There are still many small Herods who are playing with innocent lives.

Let us re-read the passage we have quoted at the beginning and meditate upon it. Let us see what impact it has on us. We can learn, if we want, both good and bad lessons from the behaviors of the wise men, the priests, scholars of law and Herod. For those who believe, the Star of Bethlehem is the star of promise, love, faith, hope and peace which are the only lasting foundation of a happy and stable society. For those who are obstinate, it is a star of confusion, jealousy, revenge and murder. Which one we should choose? It is up to us. On this happy day of Christmas, grace and peace to all of us from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Happy Christmas.

Bethel: A Keivom Nite: A Tribute of Musical Discourse to L.Keivom, held at Happy Heart School Auditorium, in Bethel, Churachandpur, was one of the first of its kind to acknowledge the man’s contribution towards the Hmar community.

The programme began at 3 p.m. onwards in the cool afternoon of December 16.

Crooning old melodious songs of L.Keivom, the artistes enthrall the gathering to a heartfelt event.

Laltuoklien, Sinlung Superstar opened the session with his action-packed song “BBC London Airport” followed a prayer fron Pu Hrangthatlur, elder brother of Pu L.Keivom.

Artistes like Ms Jenneth Sanate, Ms.Vanlalhriet, Mr Zaituokung, Lalzarlien Zote and Kanghlingpa then presented Keivom’s songs with brief introductions of each songs by Pu L.Keivom. T

he action show by children and the Keivom Choirs were another attraction.

At times, there was interaction between Pu Keivom and the audience.

Mr David Buhril, chairman of SHIPRO gave his keynote highlighting the contributions of Pu Keivom through his melodious songs.

Regarding non-upgradation of Saikot TD Block to the Status of SDO Circle

We, on behalf of Saikot Sub Division Demand Committee and Saikot TD Block inhabitants would like to appraise the State Government the rising public discontentment against non up gradation of Saikot TD Block to the status of Sub-Division Circle at par along with the Tuibuong and Sangaikot TD Blocks. The Saikot TD Block was created along with the Tuibuong and Sangaikot TD Blocks as per Manipur Gazette Order No.15/11/2003-Dev (P) dated 24th December, 2003. The up gradation of Saikot TD Block is the long felt need of need of 19,256 people inhabiting Saikot TD Block, Churachandpur residing in 39 villages consisting of 3,222 household (As per the 2010-‘11 Hill House counting). The area is inhabited by different tribes consisting of Thadou, Paite, Zou, Vaiphei, Simte, Mizo and Hmar. They live together in harmony and peace in all the past years.

To the utter dismay of the people of the Saikot TD Block, the Manipur State Government Cabinet meeting on 29th October, 2011, decided to upgrade the Tuibuong and Sangaikot TD Blocks into a full fledged Sub-Division Circle, while the Saikot TD Block was left with the status quo. The Saikot Sub Division Demand Committee has submitted the 1st Memorandum to Hon’ble Chief Minister on the 23rd November, 2011 for demanding upgradation of Saikot TD Block to the level of Sub-Division Circle. The 2nd Memorandum also had been submitted again on 5th December, 2011. But the Government of Manipur turned preferred to deaf ear to the legitimate request of the public.

As already mentioned in the above Memorandum submitted, the Cabinet meeting was held on October 29th, 2011, the Government of Manipur had taken decision to upgrade some TD Blocks like Tuibuong and Sangaikot to the status of Sub Division Circles within Churachandpur District. These TD Blocks were created along with Saikot TD Block by the same orders bearing No. 15/11/2003- DEV (P) dated Imphal, the 24th December, 2003 of the Governor of Manipur.

While the people of Saikot TD Block are waiting for upgradation with full confidence in the State Government as well as in the Hon’ble Minister representing the people of the Saikot Assembly Constituency, Saikot TD Block was left out in the process of upgradation of TD Blocks to the status of Sub Division circles. Why was our Hon’ble Chief Minister blind to see the needs of the people in Saikot TD Block? Or whether our Hon’ble Minister representing the people in Saikot Assembly Constituency was conveniently sleeping during the process of upgradation? The Proverb says, “A living dog is better than a dead lion” even if our Hon’ble Chief Minister plays the part of a dead lion the people hope and wish that our respected Minister who is no other than our representative would be a living dog to do the needful. The general publics have full confidence in him and it is expected of him to pursue the matter in the interest of the general public. Now it is the demand of the people within Saikot TD Block to upgrade to the status of Sub-Division Circle like that of Tuibuong and Sangaikot TD Blocks before 18th December, 2011 definitely. The movement also received the support of the Mizo People's Convention, Manipur, Hmar Inpui, Gen. Hqs., Zomi Council, Gen. Hqs. and other civil societies have given their tacit support in writing.

Another danger is the persistence of inequality. This inequality does not augur well for the integrity and goodwill towards the State. This inequality is clearly seen in the process of upgradation of Tuibuong and Sangaikot TD Blocks to the status of Sub-Division Circles. This unequal treatment meted out towards the Saikot TD Block is no other than inequality which hinders regional integrity in Churachandpur District. There are six Assembly Constituencies in Churachandpur District viz., (1) Singat (2) Tipaimukh (3) Henglep (4) Chuarchandpur (5) Thanlon and (6) Saikot. It may be mentioned that all the other five Constituencies are upgraded to the status of the Sub-Division Circles except for the Saikot TD Block which was ignored by the Sate Government. This is a painful experience and an insult to the aspirations of the people in Saikot TD Block.

The inequal and step-motherly treatment meted out to the people in Saikot TD Block by the State Government towards the law abiding subjects is now being perceived as undue provocation. The people of Saikot TD Block are united in the pursuit of the legitimate civil and political rights under legal framework of Indian Constitution and will continue to do so until and unless the demand of is achieved. We make our stand clear that if we do not receive the same treatment from the State Government and the status of inequality continues, then we will be left with no option but to adopt more serious forms of agitation like bandhs, strike, etc. The SSDC do not want to create hardship to the common people and resort to civilised and peaceful submission of Memorandum to achieve the desired results. Agitation against the State Government's discriminatory policies will be the last resort.

Hence, we appeal to our Hon’ble Chief Minister to immediately to upgrade Saikot TD Block to the status of Sub-Division Circle like that of Tuibuong and Sangaikot TD Blocks as Christmas Gift. We would like our demands to be met definitely within 18th December, 2011. Failing which, we have decided to call a total bandh of Churachandpur District from 6.00Am, 19th December indefinitely.

This Bandh shall not include medical, electricity, press-media, water supply and education departments.

The Committee therefore requested all to kindly support the Bandh for the noble cause demand thereof. It our demand is still not met, we cannot rule out of boycotting the coming State Assembly Election next years!

Therefore, the SSDDC would like to request the people of Churachandpur to support us in our noble cause for the interest of the public! Thank You!

How the Saikot TD Block was created: The present Saikot Tribal Development Block was created by the government of Manipur by Gazette Order No. 15/11/2003 DEV-P, dated 24th December, 2003 by the Secretary of RD & PR, Government of Manipur in accordance with the order of the Government of Manipur.

Inauguration of the Saikot TD Block: The Saikot TD Block was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Shri O Ibobi Singh on 11th February, 2004 in front of the Saikot Youth Club hall, Churachandpur. The meeting was also attend by Mr TN Haokip, the then Assembly Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly, Mr Loken Singh, Minister (RD), and Mr Ngamthang Haokip, Minister, TD, Government of Manipur.

The Present Saikot TD Block: According to Hill House counting 2010-11, here are 39 villages within the Block with 3222 households and a population of 19, 256. Importan places like the ITI, Government high school, hospital/PHC, etc are within the Saikot TD Block. It is one of the 6 Assemby Constituencies in Churachandpur district which have it’s A/C name. Various tribes like the Hmars, Mizo, Paite, Kuki, Zou, Simte and Vaiphei co-exists peacefully but are now left with deep grievances and sadness.

Our Grievances and Apprehension: The Cabinet Meeting on October 29, 2011 have decided to up-grade the Tuibuong and Sangaikot TD Block to the level of SDO Circle and the same item was published in the Sangai Express daily on the 30th October, 2011. When the people of Saikot TD Block heard the news, they were shock, grieved and felt helpless and betrayed by their own MLA.

In Churachandpur district there are 6 Assembly Constituencies, and these A/C have a Sub Division of their name each; namely, Churachandpur SD, Singngat SD, Tipaimukh SD, Thanlon SD, Henglep SD, Except – Saikot A/C! Why? The Saikot Assembly Constituency was created in 1974 and till date is still neglected, why? This ought to make one wonder why these types of discrimination and biased outlook towards a particular A/C? Who is responsible for it?

Why cannot Saikot also have a Sub-Division by its name? What makes it unfit? Discrimination attitude? Population? The People? Or the name? The people could not but wonder and ask in pain, why?

Memorandum Submitted: In regards to this matters, the first Memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur was submitted on the 23rd November, 2011 by the SD Demand Committee chairman MR Timothy Z. Zote, Mr David L. Lungtau, Muolvaiphei accompanied by the concern MDC Mr Hrila.

Before meeting the Chief Minister, the delegates meet the concern minister Mr TN Haokip at his office and said, “Sir, are very grateful for the creation of the three new Sub Divisions, namely Tuibuong SD, Sangaikot SD and Vangai SD by the State Cabinet Meeting resolution dated 29th October, 2011. In the meantime, Saikot TD Block was left out and the people would like to know why? So, in order to press our needs and grievances, we have decided to submit a Memorandum to he Chief Minister regarding the matter, and sir, would you please kindly forward the Memorandum for us to the Hon’ble Chief Minister?”

Mr TN Haokip replied, “Sorry for this time, I cannot help you. Tuibuong is my constituency which have help me in the election, and since it is a ‘give and take policy’, I cannot help you,” The delegates were dump found! The delegate replied, “We are also your constituency and are you trying to discriminate us? Is it provided or mentioned in the Constitution of India that a minister shall not endow or help to develop his/her constituency if the constituency or area does not belong to the Party? IS it written that the Congress should give developmental opportunities only to those who vote Congress?”

Mr TN Haokip replied, “Saikot has a less population than Tuibuong,” Here the delegate point out that, even lesser population like Vangai also have been up-grade and why not Saikot?” At this, the minster responded, “I don’t like to quarrel. That’s enough for today,” and so by saying this, he threw the Memorandum handed over to him at the mail box and left the room! He did not even glance at the Memorandum copy! We are not mentioning all these in order to demean or tarnish Mr TN Haokip; we are just expressing our concern to him because he is like the Father to our constituency – Saikot A/C.

2nd Memorandum: For the second time, the Second Memorandum to the Chief Minister was again submitted through the concern MLA Mr TN Haokip on 5th December, 2011. The delegate consists of Mr Thangsei, Chief of Tonjang and Executive Committee Member, Mr R. Lalkaisang, Secretary and Mr Timothy Z Zote, Chairman of the SSDDC. Mr TN Haokip, this time, glance at the Memorandum and giving it to Mr Khaipao, MDC of Kholmun, he said, “Discuss it with Mr Nehthang, MDC, Mr Ngamhao, MDC and Mr Hrila, MDC in Churachandpur.”

Other Communities’ Support: Even other communities in Churachandpur district like the Zomi Council HQ, Hmar Inpui HQ and the Mizo People Convention, Manipur declared of their support for the creation of the Saikot Sub Division – in written. We, at the same time, request all concern not take the matter as a communal or election matter, it is purely official matter.

Indefinite Bandh: Since the gentlemen approach of the Committee to the State Government has fallen to deaf ear, and despite repeated reminders there is no such action initiated, the SSDDC in its meeting resolution No.9 held on the 14th December, 2011 has resolve to organize a Indefinite Bandh in Churachandpur from 6:00am of the 19th of December, 2011 if the government does not response to Its demand by 18th December, 2011. This Bandh shall not include medical, electricity, press-media, water supply and education departments.

The Committee therefore requested all to kindly support the Bandh for the noble cause demand thereof. It our demand is still not met, we cannot rule out of boycotting the coming State Assemby Election next years!

Therefore, the SSDDC would like to request the people of Churachandpur to support us in our noble cause for the interest of the public! Thank You!

Damdiei Dil Lake

This beautiful lake called ‘Neikhup Dil’ is in Damdiei, Hmar Hills, Manipur (See map below). The the man-made lake was created in the early 1980s. The lake is about 1 km long and it goes up to ICI Tuikul (now dried up). Fishery was done till 1990.

This is one of Inpui.com’s favourite spots in Hmarram Region. 

Now, a mini-hydel project has been installed and current has been generated on a small scale for few households.

David Buhril wed Lilypar 1Bethel: In a glittering and yet simple ceremony here, SIPHRO chairman David Buhril and Lilypar took a vow to be “man and wife”. 

The best-man was retired Indian foreign diplomat and Inpui.com columnist Pu L.Keivom.

“He could be the oldest thienpa (best-man) and we had a good laugh over it,” a source who attended the event said.

Among the guests present was Sinlung ‘rock-star’ Laltuoklien who performed on the occasion.

Hmarkhawlien: Dr. Immanuel Zarzosang Varte has refused to accept the Assembly Deputy Secretary post at the HSA General Headquarters citing “various unavoidable reasons”.

Dr Varte was elected to the post at the recently concluded 53rd  HSA General Assembly held in Sakawrdai, Mizoram.

The three-time former president of HSA Shillong Jt. Headquarters, who is also a tribal organisation leader in Jiribam area,  said that “despite the honourable responsibility entrusted in me I will not be able to take it up due to various reasons.”

“As such I request you accept my resignation and appoint someone else who will take up the responsibility,” Dr Varte stated in his letter to the student body said. A copy of the letter was also forwarded to Inpui.com

Expressing regrets over his inability to take up the “honourable job”, Dr. Varte said had he attended the conference the situation could have been avoided.

“Despite this, I will continue to work for HSA and my interest in the welfare of our community will be the same as before,” Dr Varte said.

Dr Varte has represented the Hmar community at several international forums besides being actively involved in other philanthropic works.

It is not yet know whether the HSA leadership will accept Dr Varte’s resignation or go for a new election to fill the vacant post.

For months moms rush around like a mad-women trying to get everything done and organized for the holiday season. After three months of party planning, cooking, shopping and cleaning moms collapse as the New Year is rung in. Sitting among the remnants of holiday frivolity, it is easy to feel depressed about what has to be done next, to pack everything away and to brave the bleakness of midwinter. However, you can approach the new year with a different objective, to create a living environment that will inspire you and your family to do something great.

Out With the Old

Before you can build something new you have to tear down the old. In the case of post holiday task management this means putting away holiday decorations and giving the house a good once over. As you pack away your holiday stuff organize it and create a special space for it to be stored. This is the first step in organizing your life.

The next step is to de-clutter as you clean. I like to isolate one room at a time when I de-clutter and deep clean. As you go through each room decide what items you use on a regular basis and what items you have not used in a long time. The items that you do not use on a regular basis can be either stored away or discarded. Now do not just throw away the things you do not use, as there is value in these items. Some items you can recycle, some you can sell on eBay and others you can donate to a charitable organization like Goodwill. Track how you dispose of your unused items, as you can deduct the value of your donated items from your tax liability.

The decor of your home is another "old" thing that you will want to address at this point. Since you are already in the work mode, and you are already dismantling your home, now is the perfect time to think about changing the look of your home. Again do this one room at a time so you do not get overwhelmed by the process.

In with the New

Now that your home is clean and prepped for the new you are ready to decide what you need from your home for it to be functional. A good place to start is with your organizational needs. As you were cleaning what problems did you identify? For example, you may notice that small items were collecting in various drawers, or that your pantry was a cluttered mess or that you simply did not have enough storage for the items you wanted to keep. Use these identified problems to create an organizational wish list.

The next step is to really examine each room in your home and determine what it is being used for and what it could be used for. Then come up with a sketch of how you can organize the room and redesign it so that it meets your family's functional need. Add to your organizational wish list the items you need to redesign your rooms.

The final step is to do the work. Go shopping and purchase the organization and decoration items you need for each room. Then complete each room's redesign, one room at a time. To make this process more manageable you may need to focus on completing one room a week or even one room a month. As you redesign your home around your functional needs you will realize how functional your family life can become.
