Aizawl, April 6, 2010: Mizoram Home Minister R Lalzirliana yesterday informed the State Assembly that the police had submitted charge-sheet on the death of Isaac L Hmar, who was found murdered in April 2006 in Aizawl.
The charge-sheet named six people, including Lalmalsawma Darngawn, chairman of the Sinlung Hill Development Council (SHDC) as responsible for Hmar’s death, the minister said. Replying to a question from K Liantlinga of the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP), Lalzirliana said that some of the accused persons including Darngawn were exonerated by the court while some of them are still absconding, including Vanlalnghaka, a member of the underground Hmar People’s Convention - Democrats.
Except two persons, all the accused are from outside Mizoram - one from North Cachar Hills and three are from neighbouring Manipur where the HPC-D militants are operating, he said. He added that the State Government appointed Darngawn as the chairman of the SHDC after he was acquitted from the case by the court of law. (PTI)
