Senvon, April 21, 2010: More than 30 houses were damaged by heavy rain and storm yesterday night in Senvon village situated along the Mizoram-Manipur border, villagers said over mobile phone which was cut off intermittently due to inclement weather conditions.
As mobile phone connectivity could not be re-established due to the heavy rain and storm, no detailed information could be confirmed with regards to the exact number of houses destroyed and number of persons injured in many of the remote villages of the sub-division.
Till date, the Government of Manipur is yet to take stock of the situation and to determine the extend of damages done to the people in the area. Also, no relief materials has been sent or compensation given to the victims or people of the area as been provided to victims in other parts of the State.
Senvon is the largest village in Manipur and is inhabited by the Hmar Mizo community.
