Imphal, April 28: The Manipur Tribal Joint Action Committee Against Election Under Unwanted District Council Act (MTJACAEUUDCA) has called three days total bandh in Manipur hill districts as a mark of the beginning of Black-Day starting from April 30 midnight.
The Manipur tribal JAC body also asked all the tribal Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) under Manipur Legislatice Assembly to resign immediately from their respective representation as ministers or MLAs as they have failed to live-up with the expectation of the tribal people.
The tribal JAC also appealed all political parties to accept the move of the intending candidates when they withdraw their candidatures.
Attacking the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government led by O. Ibobi Singh as anti-tribal people, the agitating tribal body said, “It is an anathema to the tribal people from now on-forthwith”.
Meanwhile, taking a dig at the statement made by N. Biren, Irrigation and Flood Control department (IFCD) and sport minister published in all the leading local dailies on Wednesday, the tribal JAC queried the minister that as to how the demand for extension of 6th Schedule of the Constitution can be unconstitutional, adding with a question, "Could such demand can fragment the Manipur state?"
It further asked the minister, “Has Manipur been broken into pieces because of the 8th Schedule, the 11th Schedule (Panchayati Raj) and the 12th Schedule (Imphal Municipality Council) which were being given to the state of Manipur valley ?”
Cautioning the minister ‘not to repeat irresponsible and unbecoming expression’, the tribal body suggested ‘to realize that the Indian Constitution originally contained 395 Articles and 9th Schedule was articulated and framed, adding it would be a suicide to go against the 6th Schedule of the Constitution of India’.
The tribal JAC then said that the bandh will cover the railway-line works from Jiri to Imphal. It however, maintained the essential services will be relaxed from the bandh purview.
