In Chile, 15 miners have been rescued so far out of 33 trapped underground for 68 days amidst scenes of jubilation and ecstatic scenes of reunion with their families.
The first miner to be rescued was Florencio Avalos, who was winched to the surface shortly after 8.40 AM Indian Standard Time yesterday.
Also to emerge were the only non-Chilean, Bolivian national Carlos Mamani, and the youngest miner, Jimmy Sanchez.in an address at the mine Pinera declared the rescue a miracle. Officials say they should be able to rescue one miner each hour.
