The Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic) outfit has submitted the names of the six delegation members to represent the outfit in talks with the Mizoram government scheduled to be held this Wednesday. The delegation would not comprise of any militant, but civilians from Mizoram and Manipur.
To be led by Lalthaliana of Manipur, other members include former President of Hmar Inpui in Manipur John Pulamte, President of the Hmar Students Association, Lalthlamuana Hmar, Francis Songate, Rohringa and Thanglianchhunga. The talks would begin tomorrow in Aizawl.
The state government delegation would be led by Additional Secretary for Home Lalbiakzama, Joint Secretary for Home Lalhriatpuia, SP, CID (SB) Rodingliana Chawngthu and OSD (Home) David H. Lalthangliana.
Formed soon after the Mizoram government and the HPC signed an agreement in 1994, the HPC (D) has been demanding a separate autonomous district council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution by carving out the areas adjoining Manipur and have indulged in violence to voice their demands.
