Rengkai: A national seminar on the proposed Tipaimukh Dam was held from December 13 to 14, 2010, here in Churachandpur district of Manipur.
Prominent personalities from the Hmar tribe and other stakeholders participated in the event discussing various aspects of the mega project.
Aptly titled, “Dialogue on Dam and Development”, the North EasternCouncil-sponsored two-day event organised by the Manipur University witnessed floods of ideas with regard to the controversial Tipaimukh dam on Tuoiruong (Barak) river. Resource persons from various walks of life talked about the past, present and future of the project.
“The proposed Tipaimukh dam can create avoidable misunderstanding,” said L Keivom in his speech on the opening day of the seminar. The retired foreign diplomat who graced the occasion as chief guest also opined that the project “needs to be reviewed” from all angles.
