Mizoram Government disbursed Rs 3,000 each to the 64 militants of the Sinlung People's Liberation Army (SPLA) who had surrendered before Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla on July 17 last, state Home Minister R Lalzirliana said here today.

Lalzirliana said the state government did not regard the payment as rehabilitation but as a help to the former Hmar militants and their family members.

"The government sticks to its commitment that surrendered militants should not be given rehabilitation," he told reporters here.

Earlier, the Assam Rifles authorities had given Rs 1,000 each to the surrendered insurgents when they laid down their arms and promised them to give professional training so that they can start a normal lives. - (Agencies)
