DHAKA, July 15, 2009: The all-party parliamentary committee will not be able to visit the Tipaimukh dam sites this week due to “technical” reasons, said Water Resources Minister Romesh Chandra Sen while talking to reporters at his secretariat office.
He, however, is optimistic about the visit by this month.
The committee was earlier scheduled to visit the site by 15th this month.
The minister told the press that the committee cannot proceed on with the visit within the time, as they did not receive any letter from the foreign ministry yet. In addition to that, Awami League and Jatiya Party would hold national council during the time.
He said India will issue a letter to the foreign ministry of Bangladesh and the ministry would forward that to the water ministry.
The committee had been finalised including Jatiya Party and Jamaat-e-Islami members but without members from the main opposition BNP.
Asked about the letter to the prime minister by Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia, Romesh said if BNP nominated anyone, the committee was ready to include him/her considering the greater interest of the country.
